I wrote my first story when I was a nine year- old, freckled-faced tomboy in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Coming from a long line of oral storytellers, weaving a good yarn seemed a typical part of my life. It wasn’t until I finished college, had two children, and a full time job before I began to study the ‘craft’ of writing (you know when I had plenty of time). My music-director turned pastor husband took his first senior pastor position three years ago, moved the 6 of us to Tennessee, where we added our fifth and final kid to the Basham crew.
So…now I’m a 34-year old, freckled-faced mommy enjoying life, learning to write, and laughing often. My mom says that I must have a small bit of insanity because I don’t realize how stressed I ought to be.
My writing encompasses a large array of interests:
In fiction I write contemporary romantic comedies, historical romance, fantasy, and coming-of-age novels.
Currently I am working on a WWI era romance, and several contemporary romantic comedies set (in part or all) in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I currently work as a Clinical Instructor at East Tennessee State University.

Oh Cara,
Thank you so much for stopping by. It’s MY pleasure to sing the praises of Seekerville whenever possible. I just hope that The Writers Alley can bring as much info and encouragement as Seekerville has.
Blessings,

Pepper! This is so neat! I can’t wait until one of your books are published so I can buy one! Every part I’ve ever read of any of your novels have pulled me in.
May the Lord bless this work you’re doing. Not to mention the awesome work of wifehood and motherhood. Love you and miss you,
Monica Kelley

I’m so glad I stumbled upon your blog. I love that you’re challenging other writers. And I love that you’ve broken the genre mold. I went to a writers conference almost two months ago and all the classes seemed to be telling me you need to find your genre. I read every genre, therefore I write every genre. I can’t help it if the stories in my heart don’t line up. That’s what makes them different stories.
I apologize for the rant. I just wanted to say that I find your blog to be really encouraging. I’m sure I’ll be back.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I can’t help but write all sorts of genre – I like reading all types like you, but I also write what I’m inspired to write. It’s SOOOO much fun. For example, I justed started writing my first paranormal/visionary novel. LOL. What’s next?!?

Hi Pepper, I read your ‘short story’ IT HAD TO BE YOU and fell in love with it. I was hopeing you were going to be writing inspirational novels but I can’t find any. I got so caught up in your style and would live to read more.
Linore Rose Burkard had it on her page once a long time ago and I copied it off. I see you won an award for it too.

Juanita,
I’m still working toward publication – but I love writing stories like It Had to Be You. If God allows, I hope to have it in print some day
Thanks for the encouragement!

Pepper, I came upon your site when I clicked to read the “pee pee” article and truly enjoyed what I read. I am so proud of you and your accompishments! It does my heart good to see your success but most of all your devotion to God. Wishing you all the best in your writing aspirations.
